Grow your Own Windowledge Microgreens with Sprout Tasty Gardens.

I was contacted by the people at Sproutworld and asked if I would like to review one of their Sprout Tasty Garden Microgreen sets.

 Sprout Tasty Garden Microgreen Kit

The company says that “The Sprout Tasty Gardens will sprout fresh Microgreens within a matter of days. The little waterproof boxes are made out of FSC certified cardboard, with hemp mats instead of soil. The seeds are sprinkled on the mat and when they are watered and placed on a window ledge, the Tasty Garden boxes will provide a harvest of tasty goodness in 1-2 weeks”

The seed range available comprises of

Broccoli

Radish

Cress

Basil

Sunflower

I was sent a sample of the Sunflower seed box.

I followed the instructions and watered the enclosed little Hemp mat.

Give the Hemp mat some water so it is evenly moist.

I Sprinkled all of the Sunflower Seeds evenly over the surface, and gave them a little press down just to ensure contact with the damp mat.

Then I placed the little waterproof Box in my Bathroom window, as this was a bright warm place to let the seeds sprout….

Sowed, Watered, all ready for action...

……and it was also near a tap so I could remember to periodically give the Hemp mat a little drink.

After a few days, sprouting occurred….

Its all happening.....

The seedling grew rapidly, and I continued to give the mat a little water as and when required.

The Micro Greens grew rapidly.

At this point you need to decide how big you want your Microgreens to grow in order to use them, I let them get a little bigger, then harvested the crop.

Harvested and ready for use.

Unsurprisingly the Sunflower Greens taste just like a sunflower seed does, but I think with a more subtle taste, they took about 10-14 days to grow to the size I wanted them, and they make an interesting and tasty addition to a salad, or as a dressing or just even a little snack if you were to get peckish at any time.

I really liked the simplicity of using this set, full growing instructions are included, it was nice that the packages fit through a letter box easily, I think this set would be great fun for kids, or adults who would like something a bit different to grow and eat, I think they would make great stocking fillers, little gifts or even perhaps wedding favours.

The waterproof lid is recyclable and the little Hemp Mat is fully compostable.

Sprout Tasty Gardens start at £8.90 for a pack of 3 boxes.
